Chalet Emeraude des Alpes

In winter, you can go skiing less than 10km away at the resort of Saint Pierre de Chartreuse (1,35-1,650m) or at the family-friendly resorts of Planolet, Granier, Désert d’Entremont, and Col de Porte (15km), where you can also try biathlon. Cross-country skiing and snowshoe walks are available at Désert d’Entremont, on the Ruchère plateau and at Col de Porte. More experienced skiers can explore the resorts of Les 7 Laux and Le Collet d'Allevard, 55km away, or the 3 Vallées and Sybelles ski areas, a 1.5hr drive away.

During the rest of the year, you can explore the many hiking trails, some of which lead up to the impressive Grande Chartreuse monastery, hidden in the mountains. Cycling enthusiasts can appreciate the splendid scenery on the mountain hairpin bends, which are rarely used by cars. Canoë-kayaking trips are available on the Guiers river.

You will find a small supermarket, a cheese shop, a café, a pharmacy, a bakery and a butcher, famous for its high-quality local meat, in the village of Saint-Pierre-d'Entremont. There are also five restaurants, including a fine dining restaurant, a tapas/cocktail bar, and more in the surrounding villages.

About the property...

Up to nine guests can enjoy a wonderful holiday at Chalet Émeraude des Alpes, which has four bedrooms and two bath/shower rooms, set over three floors.

You'll enter on the ground floor – several steps take you down to the spacious living area. The fully equipped kitchen has a breakfast bar with hob, and doors to the outdoor seating area, which is where you'll find the semi-inground hot tub (secured with a protection mattress) with its heated outdoor shower, perfect for relaxing after a long day outdoors, as well as sunbeds and a barbecue. The dining table, with comfortable, upholstered chairs, is positioned to take advantage of the wonderful views, and is the perfect place for everyone to eat together. Just next to this is a cosy seating area with a large, L-shaped sofa, armchair and a wood-burning stove. There's a TV in this area, but you may find it difficult to take your eyes off the view!

The master bedroom, with walls covered in larch, is also located on the ground floor, and has its own walk-in shower, washbasin and separate WC. Going down a few steps, you will find a large bathroom with corner bathtub, double washbasin and walk-in shower.

Two other bedrooms are located on the lower ground floor. The double room has a full-width glass sliding door which perfectly frames the view and opens onto the lower terrace, with tables and chairs. Next to this is a twin room, which also has doors to the terrace. These rooms share a separate WC. There is also a laundry room with a washing machine, a dryer and a freezer.

There is another large bedroom for three on the top floor, with a single bed and a set of bunk beds. Children will appreciate this floor, which also has a games room with table football, a sofa and a television. There's also an office with a desk and armchair, perfect for working remotely. The property is connected to the fiber-optic network.

Beyond the terraces, Chalet Émeraude des Alpes has a pétanque court, and a summer grass terrace with sunchairs and a table, perfect for cooling off in the shade during the summer. The small garden slopes down to a wooded area. There is a parking area in front of the door of the chalet, and a charging point for electric cars.

Cyclists can store their bikes safely in the shed – a hose and a repair kit are available for maintenance, as well as a charging point for e-bikes.

Set in the Chartreuse natural park on the banks of the Guiers river, the beautiful traditional village of Saint-Pierre-d’Entremont has plenty to keep you busy, but without the crowds that flock to larger resorts.

In the winter, you'll be able to go skiing at the popular resort of Saint Pierre de Chartreuse and in various family-friendly resorts less than 10km from the property – Le Planolet, Le Granier, Le Désert d'Entremont, and Le Col de Porte (15km), where you can also try biathlon. You will find Nordic skiing in Le Désert d'Entremont or Le Col de Porte.

And when the snow melts, there’s still plenty to see and do in the Chartreuse Natural Park. Try via ferrata at Roche Veyrand (5km away), potholing, canyoning, or trout fishing in the river. Discover the region from the air by going paragliding or on horseback, swim in the nearby lakes or in the outdoor Nordic baths at the Oréade spa in Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse. Admire the spectacular waterfalls at Cirque de Saint-Même (9km), or enjoy the many scenic walks around Saint-Pierre-d’Entremont.

The Saint Pierre d’Entremont valley is a cyclist's paradise, thanks to the wonderful scenery and the twists and turns in the roads, which are rarely used by motorists. They often feature in stages of the Tour de France and the Dauphiné Libéré. Bikes and cycling equipment can be rented in the village.

If history is your passion, make sure you visit the ruined Château de Montbel and the museum at the Grande Chartreuse monastery, which will give you a taste of life as a Carthusian monk. You will also be able to see one of the finest pieces of 20th century sacred art by the painter Arcabas, in the church of Saint-Hugues-de-Chartreuse.

Foodies can indulge in the wonderful local produce. The village is home to the popular Boucherie Guerre, which sells delicious charcuterie, sausages and meat, and the Fromagerie Arpin where you can try the best local cheeses and dairy produce. Finally, gourmets will be able to enjoy a fine-dining experience at the Moulin des Chartreux restaurant.
